CPSP reaffirmed its commitment to enhancing the skills of healthcare professionals on 58th Convocation ceremony.

The College of Physicians and Surgeons Pakistan holds its 58th Convocation at the CPSP Karachi headquarters on Wednesday, 29 January 2025 to award degrees to 1082 medical specialists in various disciplines.Honourable Chief Minister of Sindh, Mr. Syed Murad Ali Shah, graced the ceremony as the Chief Guest and Prof. Mohammod Shahidullah, President of the Bangladesh College of Physicians and Surgeons (BCPS) and Prof. Andrew Elder, President of the Royal College of Physicians of Edinburgh graced the occasion as the Guest of Honour.Eight Hundred and Ninety-seven doctors of FCPS, 185 doctors of MCPS and a total of 1082 doctors were conferred degrees in different specialities.
The Chief Guest Syed Murad Ali Shah highlighted the vital role of quality institutions in national development, acknowledging CPSP as one of the premier institutions of postgraduate medical education in Pakistan and abroad. He commended the College for its commendable progress and achievements, emphasizing the importance of academic and administrative autonomy for institutions to thrive.
“The future of CPSP lies in the hands of young specialists who have graduated today or shall graduate tomorrow” Mr. Syed Murad Ali Shah Chief Minister of Sindh.
Addressing the graduates as the chief guest, Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah emphasized the importance of empathy and dedication in their medical careers. He reminded them of the immense sacrifices made by their families and the nation to support their journey, urging them to give back to society with commitment and compassion.
He concluded his speech with a note of appreciation, thanking the CPSP Council once again for the opportunity to be part of the auspicious occasion and expressing best wishes for the institution’s future endeavors.
Earlier,Prof. Andrew Elder, President of the Royal College of Physicians of Edinburgh started his speech by offering congratulations to the passing graduates of all the disciplines of Medicine. Addressing the audience, Prof. Elder praised the graduates for their dedication and perseverance in the field of medicine. “You have done exceptionally well. Enjoy this day with your friends and family, as this is a moment of great achievement—not just for you, but for those who have supported you throughout your journey,” he remarked. He also expressed the need of Gertatic Care specialty in Pakistan.
Prof. Dr. Mohammad Shahidullah, President of the Bangladesh College of Physicians and Surgeons (BCPS), expressed his appreciation to CPSP President Prof. Dr. Mohammad Shoaib Shafi, Senior Vice President Prof. Dr. Khalid Masood Gondal, and the CPSP council for organizing such a significant seminar a day before (on January 28th). He emphasized that collaboration between CPSP and BCPS is a pivotal strategy for strengthening postgraduate medical education.Worthy of mention here is that Dr Mohammad also shed light on the economic aspect such ties and how Bangladesh had been contributing to the GDP of India before the current chaos between India and Bangladesh. Stats tell that Bangladesh is India’s 25th largest trading partner.Healthcare is the biggest driver of medical tourism in Eastern India especially West Bengal which shares border with Bangladesh.Pharma sector is also one of the worstly affected one as India had major pharmaceutical exports to Bangladesh.
CPSP President Prof. Dr. Mohammad Shoaib Shafi emphasized the urgent need to develop specialized fields such as Emergency Medicine and Critical Care, which is essential for addressing the rising demand for life-saving skills in trauma care.
The CPSP training network has expanded its outreach within Pakistan and internationally, ensuring that its graduates have access to institutions equipped with modern facilities for advanced medical training, whether within Pakistan or abroad.
CPSP has been instrumental in enhancing healthcare in Sindh, with accredited institutions, approved supervisors, and nurses contributing significantly to the province’s healthcare system.
Gold medals are awarded to Dr. Rafia Haleem Sheikh for securing the highest marks in FCPS-II (Surgery) ,Dr. Maryam in the field of Adult Cardiology.Dr. Muhammad Osama secured the highest marks in FCPS-II (Neurosurgery).
