Karachi, October 13, 2024 — Karwan-e-Hayat, Sindh’s Non Profit Organization providing mental health care and the only facility in the province to be awarded the Sindh HealthCare Commission (SHCC) regular license, successfully celebrated World Mental Health Day 2024 on Saturday at a local hotel in Karachi. The event also officially launched the much-anticipated International Psychosocial & Psychiatric Rehabilitation Conference (PPRC) 2024. The conference is set to bring together mental health professionals and advocates to address key issues surrounding mental health care, psychiatric rehabilitation, and holistic patient support.
This year’s World Mental Health Day theme, “It is Time to Prioritize Mental Health in the Workplace,” was at the heart of the discussions. Speakers highlighted the crucial role mental health plays in both employee well-being and organizational productivity. Mr. Arshad Rahim, CEO of Karwan-e-Hayat, delivered the welcome address, setting the tone for an insightful exploration of mental health in the workplace.
Prominent speakers included Prof. Dr. Moin Ansari,Advocate Ms. Sana Peerzada, Prof. Dr. Qudsia Tariq, and Prof. Dr. Uzma Ali, who shared their expertise on various dimensions of mental health, including its impact on workplace culture, employee support systems, and the psychological effects of workplace bullying and discrimination. Each speaker provided evidence-based insights into how organizations can create healthier environments to prevent burnout, reduce stress, and contribute to better mental health outcomes for employees.
Dr. Ajmal Kazmi,Head of Psychiatric care Sir Syed Hospital elaborated on the details of the PPRC 2024, outlining its goals, sessions, and the significance of this international conference for the mental health sector. The event concluded with a panel discussion moderated by Dr. Nida Khan, featuring distinguished mental health experts who further explored strategies for integrating mental health awareness into workplace policies and leadership frameworks.
