Medical Microbiology and Infectious disease Society Members of the MMIDSP expressing their concerns over Vaccination failures in the press conference on Saturday at Karachi Press Club.
Speaking at the press conference Dr. Samreen Sarfraz said that EPI Director claims that the Routine Immunization Coverage is around 76 % but the ground reality is different.Epidemiologic studies reveal it is around 35 % and that’s why the diseases which are completely eradicated from rest of the world are seen in Pakistan.She said that government is presenting the rosy picture with manipulated data.
Highlighting urgent Public Health concerns she said that Diptheria outbreak and increase in Polio cases are alarming.Further she said,Measles and Typhoid are vaccine preventable diseases but spreading in Pakistan due to administrative failures.
Dr. Sumaya Nazimudin,President MMIDSP appealed both Public and Private stakeholders to make immunization a priority and implement robust strategies to address the growing crisis.
Dr Sumaya further highlighted the increase in the number of Polio Cases in Pakistan, pointing out that the country remains one of only two nations where wild Poliovirus cases continue to persist.
Founder MMIDSP, Dr Nasim Salauddin urged for more political and social commitment to eradicate Polio through full routine vaccination .She requested Sindh Minister of Health,Dr. Azra Pechu to improve the Routine Immunization Coverage and implement good governance.
Dr. Ali Faisal Saleem Consultant Pediatric Infectious Diseases shared some strategies to connect NADRA with School admission system to prevent youth from having disability.
It has been noted that the Health Minister Sindh has already confessed the failure of Pakistan’s routine Immunization Program in various media engagements.
