**KARACHI:** Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Chairman PPP,Bilawal Bhutto Zardari inaugurated the first phase of the Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto Expressway (formerly Malir Expressway) on Saturday by personally driving his vehicle and paying the toll fee.
The expressway, the largest Public-Private Partnership (PPP) project in Sindh, is a three-lane dual-carriageway featuring modern, access-controlled infrastructure. Spanning approximately 40 kilometers, it connects Korangi Creek Avenue (DHA) to the M-9 Motorway (Superhighway) near Kathore. This key infrastructure project is expected to significantly reduce travel time and provide a critical link for commuters.
The expressway includes dedicated interchanges for seamless access to major residential and commercial areas along its route. A ramp in the first phase will facilitate immediate traffic flow, while a connecting flyover from Korangi is set to be completed within two months.
Toll Fee and Security Measures
The Toll Plaza will manage traffic, charging Rs.100 for cars and jeeps and Rs.200 for heavy vehicles. Security provisions include continuous patrolling by traffic police, fire brigades, and Rescue 1122 ambulances. The Chief Minister directed law enforcement agencies to deploy district and traffic police at key entry and exit points, such as the Jam Sadiq, EBM, and Shah Faisal Interchanges.
Traffic police vehicles will patrol both sides of the expressway continuously, with dedicated personnel ensuring smooth traffic flow. To maintain operational efficiency, the stretch from Shah Faisal Interchange to the Shah Faisal Colony Bridge has been declared a no-parking zone.
Vehicle Restrictions
Only commercial vehicles, cars, jeeps, and buses are permitted on the expressway, while motorcycles and rickshaws are strictly prohibited.
