HEC failed to play its role in youth transformational Change :Dr Akbar Zaidi

Dr. Akbar Zaidi, Executive Director of the Institute of Business Administration (IBA), criticized the Higher Education Commission (HEC) for its inability to provide innovative knowledge to youth, leading to transformational change. He expressed these concerns at the “New Age Innovation: Create Innovation in an AI-driven Future” conference in Karachi.

According to Dr. Zaidi, universities have become mere degree-granting institutions rather than knowledge hubs. He pointed out that the proliferation of universities, with 243 out of 264 institutions struggling, has led to a dilution of quality. “Our universities are no longer centers of knowledge and innovation,” he said. “They are producing worthless degrees that have no connection to the education system.”

Dr. Zaidi emphasized that Pakistan is in transition towards a knowledge-driven economy. To achieve this, he stressed the need for a robust higher education system that fosters innovation and transformational change in youth.

Renowned scientist Dr. Atta-ur-Rehman highlighted the benefits of artificial intelligence (AI), including accelerating innovation, boosting economic growth, and transforming industries like healthcare, education, and finance. He emphasized the need for Pakistan to harness technology and AI to enhance the skill-ls of university students.

Dr. Rüdiger Lotz, Consul General of Germany in Karachi, discussed the impact of AI on industrial growth in Germany. He noted that while AI is beneficial, safeguards are necessary to ensure innovation in all fields.

Dr. Zainab Samad, Chair of the Department of Medicine at Agha Khan University, spoke about the transformative impact of AI on medical diagnostics and patient care. She also highlighted the potential effects of continuous technology use on the brain and social interactions. The conference provided a platform for experts to discuss the potential of AI in shaping a more inclusive and sustainable future.
