FoodAg 2024

KARACHI, Aug 09 (APP): Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif inaugurated the 2nd edition of FoodAg 2024, a flagship event hosted by the Trade Development Authority of Pakistan (TDAP) in collaboration with the Ministry of Commerce.

The inauguration ceremony, held at the Expo Center on Friday, was attended by prominent figures including the Turkish Minister of Trade, Prof. Dr. Omer Bolat, Governor of Sindh Kamran Khan Tessori, Chief Minister of Sindh Syed Murad Ali Shah, Federal Minister for Commerce Jam Kamal Khan, TDAP Chief Executive Muhammad Zubair Motiwala, and several leading businessmen.

FoodAg, a sector-specific trade event organized by the Government of Pakistan, brings together international buyers from around the globe to explore and connect with Pakistani companies showcasing a wide range of Agro and Food sector products, fulfilling their procurement and sourcing needs.

This year’s event has attracted over 650 foreign buyers and importers from more than 70 countries, with 330 exhibitors displaying their products. High-profile delegations from South Africa, Afghanistan, Vietnam, and Malaysia held significant meetings with Federal Minister for Commerce Jam Kamal Khan, TDAP Chief Executive Muhammad Zubair Motiwala, and senior officials from the Ministry of Commerce.

Regulatory officers from various countries attended the event to address quarantine and certification issues, while TDAP facilitated government-to-government (G2G) meetings with international counterparts. Since its inception, TDAP has been actively promoting Pakistani Agro and food products to broaden their market reach and enhance their visibility to international buyers.

A seminar on exporting food products to the European Union was also organized, alongside 2136 sector-specific business-to-business (B2B) meetings between foreign buyers and local exhibitors. These interactions are expected to generate business worth USD 541 million on the first day alone. Additionally, 14 Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) were signed between foreign buyers and Pakistani exhibitors in sectors such as dairy, salt, food and beverages, and confectionery.

On the first day, regulatory authorities from Vietnam, Indonesia, South Africa, Gambia, and Senegal held discussions with heads of the Department of Plant Protection, PSQCA, Pakistan Halal Authority, and Animal Quarantine Department.

An international food cuisine exhibition was arranged to introduce the taste and aroma of Pakistani food to foreign delegates. Delegates from Russia’s fishery sector visited the Korangi Fish Harbour to inspect processing plants and expressed high satisfaction with the standards and practices in place, indicating strong interest in importing from these facilities.

The event is poised to significantly enhance Pakistan’s global image and stimulate economic activity, particularly within the Agro and food export-oriented sectors. The exhibition will continue for the next two days (10th and 11th August 2024), with the final day open to the general public.
