The central mosque located in Muhammad Chowk, UC-14, New Miawali Colony, Karachi — which also serves as an Eidgah and draws large congregations for Friday and Eid prayers — had long been troubled by illegal encroachments. Recently, Town Chairman Manghopir, Haji Nawaz Ali Brohi, launched an operation to clear the area, a move that has been welcomed by residents.
On this occasion, Councilor Ghulam Muhammad Magsi, social activist and journalist Peer Bakhsh Noonari, Kifayat Khan, and Farooq Magsi were also present.
According to locals, unauthorized stalls and structures built over the drainage channel were creating serious difficulties. Not only did they obstruct worshippers on their way to the mosque, but they also blocked the general public’s passage. Reports suggest that shopkeepers were collecting monthly payments from these encroachments, further burdening residents and disturbing the civic system of the locality.
The community has appealed to the Chief Minister of Sindh and the Commissioner Karachi to take strict and lasting measures to permanently resolve such issues.
Residents praised the efforts of Town Chairman Haji Nawaz Ali Brohi, calling his actions highly commendable, and urged that this cooperation continue so that basic civic facilities can be ensured for citizens in the long run.
