China’s Consulate General Karachi in a detailed address on the occasion of a special training program themed “China’s Economic Transformation and the Lessons for Pakistan”, highlighted the historical journey of China, the principles behind its economic miracle, the challenges it continues to face, and its vision for future progress and cooperation with Pakistan.
He began by recalling the significance of the day, marking 80 years since the victory in the Chinese People’s War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression. He underlined that commemorating this history was a way of cherishing peace and learning lessons for the future. The CG noted that Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif had been invited to China’s commemorations, describing it as a reflection of the “iron-clad friendship” between Pakistan and China.
Reflecting on history, he reminded the audience that old China had suffered from foreign aggression, war, and poverty. Today, however, the country has risen to become the world’s second-largest economy, the leading manufacturing hub, and the largest trader of goods. This transformation, he said, was the result of political stability, visionary leadership, pragmatic reforms, and policies rooted in Chinese realities rather than borrowed models. He emphasized the Communist Party of China’s role, noting that its centralized leadership and zero-tolerance approach to corruption had enabled China to achieve one victory after another while ensuring long-term stability and progress.
The CG further explained that China’s success lies in its ability to combine Marxist principles with its own historical and cultural realities, rejecting the mechanical copying of Western models. He pointed out that China’s development path was independently forged, focusing on reform, innovation, and modernization in line with its national conditions. Equally important was the balance China maintained between independence and openness. Self-reliance had laid the foundation for industrialization and sovereignty, while proactive participation in globalization had allowed China to benefit from international markets and resources.
He highlighted China’s unique system of balancing the role of a well-functioning government with an efficient market. The state provided macroeconomic regulation, social fairness, and long-term stability, while the market ensured efficiency, innovation, and competitiveness. This synergy, he said, was one of the keys to China’s economic rise. He also stressed that China’s development had never come at the cost of the environment, pointing to the principle of “lucid waters and lush mountains” as a foundation for sustainable growth.
Turning to present challenges, the CG acknowledged that despite its achievements, China faces issues such as unbalanced urban-rural development, governance gaps, social contradictions, and a hostile international environment marked by sanctions, trade barriers, and interference in China’s internal affairs. He also warned of domestic risks such as financial pressures, real estate concerns, and social security challenges brought on by an aging population. These issues, he said, require proactive reforms, risk management, and an unrelenting focus on stability.
Looking ahead, he outlined China’s vision for modernization through high-quality, innovation-driven growth, strengthening governance, and maintaining sovereignty. He noted that China remains committed to peaceful development and global cooperation, citing initiatives such as the Belt and Road, the Global Development Initiative, and the vision of a shared future for mankind. China, he stressed, will continue to champion multilateralism, fair trade, and inclusive globalization.
The speech concluded with a message of reassurance and solidarity for Pakistan. The Consulate General said that China desires a prosperous, strong, and stable Pakistan more than any other country, as the two nations are “iron-clad brothers and all-weather partners.” He urged Pakistani participants to turn their learning into practical action, unify knowledge with conviction, and contribute to building a thriving Pakistan while carrying forward the deep-rooted friendship between the two countries.
Dr. Saif ur Rehman, Director of National Institute of Public administration(NIPA), highlighted the strong friendship and mutual respect between Pakistan and China, emphasizing the importance of learning from the past to shape the future. He praised China’s remarkable progress over recent decades, noting that nearly 800 million people have been lifted out of poverty and that China has become the world’s second-largest economy, contributing more than 30 percent to global economic growth.
He commended China’s achievements in science and technology, from space exploration through the Chang’e lunar mission and the Tiangong Space Station, to advancements in 5G networks and the development of the world’s largest high-speed rail system. He also pointed to China’s commitment to environmental responsibility, including its pledge for carbon neutrality by 2060 and its position as the largest producer of renewable energy.
Dr. Saif ur Rehman stressed the importance of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), describing it as more than infrastructure — a symbol of prosperity, connectivity, and brotherhood. He noted that projects from Gwadar Port to energy development are transforming Pakistan’s economy and strengthening bilateral ties. He also expressed gratitude for China’s support during the COVID-19 pandemic, which included medical aid and vaccines.
Beyond economics and technology, he acknowledged China’s cultural and philosophical contributions, highlighting that progress is not only about material advancement but also about values and shared humanity. At NIPA Karachi, he said, there is a commitment to learn from China’s example, with a belief that education builds confidence, confidence creates hope, and hope fosters peace.
In conclusion, he remarked that China is not only a partner but also a friend and source of inspiration, encouraging Pakistan to work harder, dream bigger, and move forward together.
