An audit officer of the Sindh Employees’ Social Security Institution (SESSI), Faraj Ali Qureshi, has been suspended following a formal complaint by a registered employer alleging a demand for bribes.
According to officials, the complaint was submitted last week, accusing the officer of pressuring a private company to pay a substantial amount under the pretext of inspecting social security records. Acting promptly, SESSI Commissioner Hadi Bux Kalhoro ordered the suspension and directed the officer to report to the head office.
Officials said the action reflects a broader push toward accountability within SESSI. The institution has recently introduced a help desk to facilitate complaints and guide registered workers and employers, leading to increased reporting of misconduct.
SESSI Director Administration Vakiluddin Shah reiterated a zero-tolerance policy toward corruption, particularly in cases involving alleged bribery during inspections.
Sources further claimed that the suspended officer holds Canadian nationality and reportedly spends part of the year abroad.
Provincial Labour Minister Saeed Ghani has also directed strict action against any official found involved in corruption, emphasizing that malpractice in workers’ institutions will not be tolerated.
In recent weeks, administrative action has been taken against more than 70 SESSI employees, including senior officials, over allegations such as dual employment and other misconduct. Salaries of several officers have been withheld pending inquiries.
Meanwhile, the Chief Minister’s Inspection and Enquiry Team is continuing investigations into alleged irregularities within the institution, signaling a renewed focus on transparency and institutional reform.
