The Pakistan Peoples Party has announced its full support for the KPT Workers Union (Election Symbol: Shaheen) in the referendum scheduled to be held on September 10 at Karachi Port Trust (KPT) for the collective bargaining agent union.
In a joint statement, Habib-ud-Din Junaidi, President of the Peoples Labour Bureau Sindh, Muhammad Aslam Samoon, President of Karachi Division, and General Secretary Hussain Badshah said that for a long time workers in the KPT institution were divided in the name of ethnicity. However, now the time has come for the working class to exercise their right to vote in full force and ensure the victory of those who safeguard workers’ rights.
It is pertinent to mention that *14 trade unions* are participating in this referendum. The *total number of registered voters is 2,627*. For the convenience of voters, the *Government of Sindh has established 10 polling booths*.
The *main contest is between the PPP-supported union (Election Symbol: Shaheen) and the Muttahida Workers Front (Election Symbol: Star) backed by the Muttahida Qaumi Movement*.
