SBP Governor Announces Special Remittance Scheme for Overseas Pakistanis

Date:

KARACHI, August 14, 2026

State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) Governor Jameel Ahmad on Friday announced a special remittance scheme for overseas Pakistanis as part of Independence Day celebrations, reaffirming the central bank’s commitment to sustainable economic growth.
Speaking to the media after hoisting the national flag at an Independence Day ceremony at the SBP Karachi office, Governor Ahmad said overseas Pakistanis had demonstrated strong confidence in Pakistan’s economic progress through record remittances.

He said remittances exceeded $41 billion in FY2025-26 and were expected to reach $44 billion in FY2026-27. The increase in remittances, coupled with a low current account deficit of 0.1 percent, was helping strengthen the country’s foreign exchange position.
Pakistan’s foreign exchange reserves stood at $18.4 billion at the end of FY2025-26 and were expected to exceed $21 billion during FY2026-27, he added.
Governor Ahmad said the recent peace agreement would have a positive impact on the economy, adding that economic progress reflected sustained efforts and the achievement of key economic targets.

He highlighted SBP initiatives to promote Islamic banking, green finance, agricultural financing and cyber security, saying these measures were aimed at making the financial system more secure, resilient and aligned with future requirements.
Earlier, the governor hoisted the national flag and said Pakistan’s economy had made significant progress towards stability during the past year, supported by prudent fiscal and monetary policies and greater economic discipline. The country, he said, was now moving from economic stabilisation towards sustainable growth.

Students of Fatima Jinnah School and NJV School, under the supervision of Zindagi Trust, performed national songs with live musical accompaniment.
Governor Ahmad also inaugurated an art exhibition by Jimmy Engineer at the SBP Museum. The ceremony was attended by senior SBP officials, staff members and their families. Gifts were distributed among participating students at the end of the event.
