KARACHI (April 16) — A delegation of the SITE Association of Industry visited the head office of the Sindh Employees Social Security Institution on Thursday and held a detailed meeting with Commissioner Hadi Bakhsh Kalhoro to review ongoing development and upgradation work at Social Security Walika Hospital.
The meeting was attended by members of the SESSI Governing Body, including Abdul Wahid Shoro, Engineer Abdul Jabbar, and Zahra Khan, along with senior officials such as Vice Commissioner Sikandar Baloch and Medical Advisor Dr Kamran Awan.
The SITE delegation, led by Senior Vice President Khalid Riaz and Vice President Tahir Goreja, raised concerns regarding sanitation conditions, infection control measures, patient difficulties, availability of medicines, and issues related to laboratory and X-ray facilities at the hospital.
Responding to these concerns, Dr. Kamran Awan informed participants that significant improvements have been made. He said cleanliness standards have been enhanced, the X-ray machine is now fully operational, and laboratory services have been outsourced. Fire safety equipment has also been installed across all departments. He added that four major hospitals have been empaneled to ensure better treatment options for patients requiring specialized care, particularly cancer patients, for whom substantial funding is being allocated.
He further highlighted the introduction of the Hospital Information Management System (HIMS) to ensure transparency in medicine supply, while Director Contribution and Benefit Waseem Jamal noted that digitalization efforts are being accelerated, including procurement of modern IT equipment and establishment of a complaint cell for prompt grievance redressal.
Governing Body members emphasized the importance of continued collaboration between industrialists and SESSI to address workers’ issues. Commissioner Hadi Bakhsh Kalhoro termed the meeting productive, stating that such engagements are vital for improving healthcare services for industrial workers and their families under the social security system.
