KARACHI, Sept 21:
Junior doctors at the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC) have expressed concern over the non-payment of their salaries for nearly three months, saying the delay has caused financial difficulties and mental stress.
The affected doctors said they continued to perform their duties in wards, emergency departments, outpatient services and other clinical areas despite not receiving their monthly salaries. They said the prolonged delay had made it difficult for them to meet household expenses, transportation costs and other essential financial obligations.
The doctors maintained that timely payment of salaries was a basic right of every employee and urged the JPMC administration to take immediate steps to clear all outstanding payments.
They said salary delays not only created financial hardships but also affected the morale and motivation of young medical professionals working under demanding conditions.
Meanwhile, doctors’ alliances have condemned what they described as an unprofessional approach by the JPMC administration, alleging that it had failed to properly manage the affairs of the major public-sector healthcare institution.
The doctors’ representatives urged the relevant authorities to intervene, ensure the immediate release of pending salaries and introduce measures to prevent such delays in the future.
They said timely payment would provide much-needed relief to junior doctors and help restore confidence among medical professionals serving at JPMC.
