Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah has said the province’s livestock sector has immense potential to accelerate economic growth, reduce rural poverty and enhance Pakistan’s exports.
He was speaking as chief guest at the inauguration ceremony of a pet hospital at the Sindh Institute of Animal Health (SIAH), Karachi.
The chief minister said Sindh had enormous potential in dairy and meat production, with several indigenous animal breeds renowned for producing quality milk and meat. He said greater investment and modernisation of the livestock sector could help increase exports and strengthen food security.
Murad Ali Shah noted that thousands of rural women were actively involved in livestock care, milk processing and household dairy production, making the sector an important source of women’s economic empowerment.
Director General Sindh Livestock Nazir Kulhoro said Pakistan was among the world’s leading livestock-producing countries and expressed hope that research and development at SIAH would benefit farmers throughout Sindh.
He said the provincial livestock sector continued to face challenges, including inadequate veterinary facilities, weak market mechanisms, insufficient breeding services and a shortage of modern feedlot infrastructure. Financial constraints were also preventing many farmers from achieving the sector’s full potential.
Kulhoro said the government was taking measures to address these challenges. He said Foot-and-Mouth (FMD) Disease vaccines are produced here and anti-snake venom is being produced at our Vetinary University ‘s laboratory in Sakrand.
He added that veterinary doctors would be provided motorcycles to enable them to reach farmers in remote and far-flung areas and provide timely veterinary services.
At the ceremony, Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah distributed motorcycle keys among veterinary doctors of SIAH for field services across Sindh.
Sindh Minister for Livestock and Fisheries Mohammed Ali Malkani, Labour and Manpower Minister Saeed Ghani, Industries Minister Ikram Ullah Dharejo, Sports Minister Sardar Mohammed Bux Khan Mehar, Special Assistant to C.M Arif Khan and Saleem Baloch, and other senior government officials attended the ceremony.
